SUMMER TERM 2022 WEEKLY CLASSES

Hi all, 

These are the Bring-your-own weekly classes.

This term, the online weekly classes will be held via zoom and the recordings will be stored on new private facebook pages.  This way you can not only watch back the recordings, but you can ask questions and share images in the groups.  

The zoom links will be stored on the facebook pages and can also be found in the members section under "my bookings"

Ingredients and Equipment - Facebook groups will contain photos of cutters/veiners

 

Each week please check the list for your class to see the ingredient and equipment required, these are only suggestions as you may have tools or ingredients that you would prefer to use

but please assume that

Each week you need the following basic tools: -

Modelling tools set such as PME, to include Dresden, ball tool, bone tool, cone tool, scribe, non stick smooth work board, edible glue and brush, small rolling pin, corn flour puff. kitchen roll, paint palette and brushes (PME do a set of 5 brushes which have 3 detail brushes and 2 dusting brushes which is a good starter), palette knife, small sharp knife, scalpel (no.11 blade), small sharp scissors, cutting wheel if you have one. (long rolling pin for covering cakes)  Apron, baby wipes, dish cloth and tea towel, kitchen roll, gloves if you prefer to wear them.

Polystyrene dummy for flowers/models  at least 6" wide with a box at least 10-12" tall to put the dummy in.

For flower courses also include: jem 12 a/b texture tool, pliers, florist wires and tape, PME spray glaze, grooved board or non stick flower work board, celpad or flower pad or your hand. Flower cutters will be listed next to the relevant week. PVA or Impex hi-tac non toxic glue fand nivea or cold porcelain work , or trex or PME petal base for sugar flowers..

Paste - I will be using Cold porcelain: Hearty soft deluxe and/or modena - please add white gouache/acrylic/oil paint if using just modena as it is translucent (it becomes opaque when the paint  or a small amount of hearty soft deluxe is added). Wilton winton oil paints Sap green is invaluable as a leaf base colour when colouring cold porcelain.

You are welcome to use sugar florist paste such as Squires kitchen or platinum, or sugarflex (I do not recommend pastes that say "flower and modelling" however, simply heaven flower modelling paste is suitable too).  

Colours: You are welcome to choose different appropriate colours for all courses, I will suggest what I will be using. 

In the flower groups you have the freedom to choose your colours but I will be making flowers the colour of the advertised fresh flowers.

This is a weekly "Bring your own"class. I will be working in cold porcelain but you will be able to choose whether to work in cold porcelain or sugar flowers

Week 1 6th June Red Campion - you will need: primrose cutter (I use FMM), leaves free hand cut or use simple leaf cutters.   Leaf veiner either all purpose, or hypericum. Micro or tiny white stamen - you can make white flowers or the pink. Dusts to include lemon yellow, moss or gooseberry, woodland or foliage, aubergine, I use Rose campion for the pink by Diamond Paste (sugar city) nile green florist tape. Wires 24, 26, 28g wires and nice green florist tape (same wires for next week)

Week 2 13th June St John's Wort, Hypericum - PME small calyx cutter, berries will be free hand with pale green florist paste, dusting with red and aubergine. You can dip the berries or spray. Leaves - I will provide a template. I use Aldaval hypercium leaf veiner. Flowers use micro stamen (yellow or white) and can either be pulled flowers, use a five petal blossom cutter approximately an inch or individual apple blossom cutter. lemon and primrose yellows, moss or gooseberry, woodland or foliage and aubergine

Week 3 20th June Icelandic poppies (and hydrangea florets) can be white, orange, yellow, pink or red Poppy petal veiner (I have blooms, sugar city, Aldaval and Squires Kitchen - all are suitable. Small seed head stamen, flowerpaste in your chosen colour plus pale green for centre, If  you have them, orchard daisy cutter set (borrow mine in the room if you don't as we only need it for the middle) Tweezers, naibrush or cocktail sticks grouped together. Dusts to include lemon yellow, tangerine, red, aubergine, moss or gooseberry. lemon yellow coloured semolina (optional) - Single Hydrangea floret - Sugar city individual hydrangea bract cutter and veiner.  (20g and 28g white wires and nice green florist tape
Week 4 27th June Gerbera - either individually wired with 30g white wires and either individual daisy petal cutters or free hand and using the veining tool. Or you can use the PME Small gerbera plunger cutter and the veining tool. Medium Orchard or FMM carnation cutter (optional 33 gauge wires for stamen) plus the lemon yellow semolina.  There are a lot of colours you can use for Gerberas, but ensure you bring lemon yellow, aubergine/dark chocolate brown. If making a burgundy gerbera, I colour with claret and dust with sugarflair burgundy and a little aubergine.  18g wires for sugar main stem or 20g for artista soft
Week 5 4th July Catch up week 

11th June no class (I have a demonstration in Wenvoe)
Week 6 18th June Assembly -
complete any work you need to during this lesson, plus a vase to place the arrangement in.

Tuesday 11am-1pm     Week A Wild Flowers £30

This is a fortnightly class. See below for which wild flowers we will be making

The fortnightly dates for this term are:


Week A will be modelling spread over three weeks held fortnightly
This term we will be creating  flowers - Buttercup, Cuckoo Flower and violets.
week 1 6th June - Cuckoo Flower -
FMM Daphne cutter, micro stamen (white or yellow), nile green florist tape, 28, 30 and 26g white wires dusts to include lemon yellow, gooseberry, woodland, aubergine and violet
week 2 28th June - Buttercup - F8 orchard (approx 3cm or smaller) small five petal round blossom cutter, FMM small calyx cutter, tiny seedhead or micro stamens and yellow coloured semolina. lemon yellow and primrose, gooseberry, woodland, aubergine, all purpose leaf veiner, 26, 28, 30, 24g white wires and nile green florist tape
week 3 12th July - Violets - Tinkertech 557 violet cutter, heart shaped cutters or Cutters direct violet leaf cutters. I have Squires Kitchen violet leaf veiner, but you can hand vein using a bent pin, scribe or dresden tool. Colours to include african violet and deep purple, gooseberry, woodland green, aubergine, dipping solution, fine paint brush, 26, 28, 30g white wires, nile green tape.

Tuesday 11am - 1pm Week B Modelling £30

This is a fortnightly class creating a single Terracotta army figure with a wire armature

Week B will be modelling spread over three weeks held fortnightly

You will need: 250g white Saracino, you can create the figure in grey stone effect, or dust with bronzes, black and bronwn.  Armature can be 18g and 24g white wire, or using kebab skewers and 24g wires.  You can use a drum to attach the wires to, or push into a polystyrene dummy.  You will need regular modelling tools, a nailbrush or bunch of cocktail sticks and foil to add texture.

Week 1 Tuesday 7th June Cymbidium Orchid -
Ruscus leaf cutter and a template or cymbidium orchid cutters. Sugar city poppy veiner and hibiscus petal or orchid petal veiners. 26 and 28g white wires, white paste and dust colours to include lemon yellow, plum, burgundy, aubergine, nile green florist tape, fine brushes
Week 2 Tuesday 14th June Complete orchid - as above
Week 3 Tuesday  21st June tbc
Week 4 Tuesday 28th June Golden Retriever cake topper -
125g of saracino coloured with cream or pale autumn leaf.  Regular modelling tools, dusts to include, brown, black, blush pink or saracino pink, basic modelling tools and a cake board for your figures to sit on.
Week 5 Tuesday 5th July Strawberry Plant - Either strawberry set cutters and veiners and moulds including 3cm five petal found blossom cutter and PME small marguerite plunger cutter, rose leaf cutter and veiner. 24, 26, 28g white wires, nile green florist tape. Lemon yellow, vine green, gooseberry, woodland, aubergine, red, micro stamen, white or yellow sewing thread.
Week 6 Tuesday 12th July Complete Strawberry plant - small up to 4" wide plant pot, spare sugarpaste to fill the pot and oreo biscuits crumbled to represent earth
