Hi all, 

These are the Bring-your-own weekly classes.

This term, the online weekly classes will be held via zoom and the recordings will be stored on new private facebook pages.  This way you can not only watch back the recordings, but you can ask questions and share images in the groups.  

The zoom links will be stored on the facebook pages and can also be found in the members section under "my bookings"

Enrolment open for January 2022. 

Equipment list will be online before Christmas

Ingredients and Equipment - Facebook groups will contain photos of cutters/veiners

 

Each week please check the list for your class to see the ingredient and equipment required, these are only suggestions as you may have tools or ingredients that you would prefer to use

but please assume that

Each week you need the following basic tools: -

Modelling tools set such as PME, to include Dresden, ball tool, bone tool, cone tool, scribe, non stick smooth work board, edible glue and brush, small rolling pin, corn flour puff. kitchen roll, paint palette and brushes (PME do a set of 5 brushes which have 3 detail brushes and 2 dusting brushes which is a good starter), palette knife, small sharp knife, scalpel (no.11 blade), small sharp scissors, cutting wheel if you have one. (long rolling pin for covering cakes)  Apron, baby wipes, dish cloth and tea towel, kitchen roll, gloves if you prefer to wear them.

Polystyrene dummy for flowers/models  at least 6" wide with a box at least 10-12" tall to put the dummy in.

For flower courses also include: jem 12 a/b texture tool, pliers, florist wires and tape, PME spray glaze, grooved board or non stick flower work board, celpad or flower pad or your hand. Flower cutters will be listed next to the relevant week. PVA or Impex hi-tac non toxic glue fand nivea or cold porcelain work , or trex or PME petal base for sugar flowers..

Paste - I will be using Cold porcelain: Hearty soft deluxe and/or modena - please add white gouache/acrylic/oil paint if using just modena as it is translucent (it becomes opaque when the paint  or a small amount of hearty soft deluxe is added). Wilton winton oil paints Sap green is invaluable as a leaf base colour when colouring cold porcelain.

You are welcome to use sugar florist paste such as Squires kitchen or platinum, or sugarflex (I do not recommend pastes that say "flower and modelling" however, simply heaven flower modelling paste is suitable too).  

Colours: You are welcome to choose different appropriate colours for all courses, I will suggest what I will be using. 

In the flower groups you have the freedom to choose your colours but I will be making flowers the colour of the advertised fresh flowers.

Flower making can be really relaxing. Whether you are new to flowers or not, it is all about breaking down techniques and the air drying clay makes it a lot easier to learn as there are less breakages. I will be demonstrating using cold porcelain/air drying clay, you could use sugar if you wish.

We will be making a sorbet peony, Gallardia, Tobacco flower, Acer foliage, Echinacea.

10th January - Acer - FMM Maple leaf cutters, sugar city japanese maple veiner, red paste, red, burgundy, aubergine dust colour, pme spray glaze, 26, 28, 30, 20g white wires, red and burgundy tape 

17th January - acer - as above

24th January - Tobacco flower - 5-10cm wide flowers with long necks, 3cm wide rose calyx or katy sue flower pro filler flowers, centre flower, 24g white wire, nile green florist tape, colour your choice but to include lemon yellow, gooseberry/moss green, dark green, mini/micro matt white stamen

31st January - Tobacco flower - as above

7th February - Echinacea - aldaval echinacea set, I will provide templates, 20, 24, 26, 28, 30g white wires, nile green florist tape, lemon yellow, , aubergine, moss/gooseberry, dark green dust colours

14th February - Echinacea - as above 

Half term 21-25th February

28th February - Gallardia - I ordered the MondMohn Gallardia centre mould and veiner (could use echinacea centre, plus smallest blossom plunger cutter and all purpose/peony leaf veiner), 20g white wire, nile green florist tape, colours to include lemon yellow, orange, red, burgundy, aubergine, moss/gooseberry, dark green

7th March - Gallardia - as above

14th March - Sorbet Peony - Culpitt or similar peony cutter set and veiner (large, up to 9cm) (or jem veining tool and all purpose petal/rose petal veiner), I will provide templates (or you can use rose petal cutters and stretch the shapes), leaf cutter and veiner (FMM set is nice), 26, 28, 30g white wires, nile green florist tape. large calyx cutter or peony calyx cutter, dust colours to include pink, plum, lemon yellow, moss/gooseberry, dark green, spoons or formers to support petals

21stMarch - Sorbet Peony - as above

28th March - Sorbet Peony - as above

4th April - Final work and assembly

Tuesday 10am-12     Week A Flowers

This will be a fortnightly group making five varieties of flowers - Azalea, Bourgainvillea, Chamomile, Wisteria and Dahlia

I will be working in cold porcelain, but you can choose to work in flowerpaste.

Please check the basic tools list above too for the regular equipment.

The fortnightly dates for this term are:


week 1 11th January - chamomile - PME small marguerite plunger cutter, or make individual petlas using jem or tinkertech cutters, daisy centre mould/stamp by squires kitchen or jem or kimaforart. 24g white wires, nile green florist tape, white, yellow, green paste, small sharp tweezers and scissors

week 2 25th January - bourgainvillea - bourganvillea petal (bract) cutter and veiner (I have squires and tinkertech) and smallest five petal blossom plunger cutter, 24, 26, 28, 30g white wires, nile green florist tape, paste, lemon yellow, moss green, dark green dust colours and your chosen colour, 5/6 star tool by PME or jem
week 3 8th February - Dahlia - dahlia petal cutters and veiners, 26, 28g, 18g white wires, nile green florist tape. Optional dahlia centre mould, flower colour of choice plus lemon yellow, moss green, dark green, aubergine dust colours, pme spray glaze.
week 4 1st March - Wisteria - smallest individual rose petal cutters (two smallest in FMM set), , 26, 28, 30g white wires and nile green and brown florist tape. Dust colours to include lemon yellow, lilac/lavender/violet, blue (cornflower), gooseberry/moss, dark green
week 5 15th March - Azalea - tinkertech azalea petal cutter(s), or use a 5/6 star tool for a pulled flower, or a single five petal blossom cutter approximately 2-3cms. Orchard six petal pointed blossom cutter 2-3cms and tinkertech calyx 304 or PME smallest calyx wheel cutter, micro matt white stamens, dust colours to include pink, brown, gooseberry/moss, dark green, lemon yellow, aubergine 24, 26, 28g white wires, nile green florist tape 
week 6 29th March - final work and assembly

This will be a fortnightly group.  Miniatures in Sugar.  This term we will be making a beautiful miniature village of individual buildings that would look equally fantastic on cupcakes, single or tiered cakes or even as a display

Equipment needed

You can work in flowerpaste or pastillage, using sugarpaste for adding details.  Useful tools is the patchwork cutters miniature brickwork embosser (although even that could appear too large if your buildings are very small). Regular modelling tools, a board and box to store your work on, dust/gel colours to suit.  You can also paint with gel/dust colours and alcohol or with dust colours and cocoa butter.

We will aim to make a building each week - think of Lilliput lane style buildings, you are welcome to bring your own image reference to work from.

This will be a mix subject group.  We will be covering everything from a pond theme design creating a sugar waterlily, isomalt water and splash and a dragonfly as well as spring flowers, pansies, snowdrops, primrose a board side design making ruffles and adorable spring animals

Remember a polystyrene dummy to put your flowers in (6" or wider) and a box at least 12" tall (can you box extenders, but better to keep boxes that you may receive deliveries in over the summer)

11th January - Snowdrops - snowdrop two part cutter set, white and green flowerpaste (or hearty soft deluxe or modena), moss green and lemon yellow dust colour, culpitt dipping solution, mini matt white stamens, 24, 26g white wire, nile green floristry tape, 

18th January - Primroses - FMM or tinkertech primrose cutter, primrose leaf veiner (I will provide a template for the cutter), 36, 38g white wires, nile green florist tape, lemon yellow, tangerine, moss green, dark green dust colours, pme spray glaze, cutting wheel or scalpel, flower pad and tools listed above. Small white matt stamen (optional), detail and dusting brushes.

25th January - Pansy - 1" heart cutter, FMM set of 5 rose petal cutters, white flower paste (or hearty soft deluxe/modena), lemon yellow, african violet, deep purple, moss green, dark green dust colours, culpitt dipping solution, PME spray glaze, I will provide a template for the leaf shape, all purpose leaf or pansy leaf veiner. Jem frilling stick

8th February - lying down lamb - white saracino modelling paste (up to 100g), modelling kit, shadow grey (or black and white), kitty nose pink/rose pink, brown, black dusts, dust colours, culpitt dipping solution. cake board/box

15th February - cute cartoon fox - white saracino modelling paste (up to 100g), modelling kit,  black and white), kitty nose pink/rose pink, orange, red, brown, black dusts, dust colours, culpitt dipping solution. cake board/box

Half Term 21-25th February

1st March - Sleeping baby deer - white saracino modelling paste (up to 100g), modelling kit, brown (or black and white), kitty nose pink/rose pink, brown, black dusts, dust colours, culpitt dipping solution. cake board/box

8th March - cake ruffles - you can choose to bring a pre-iced small round cake dummy, or iced board, 100g flowerpaste and 100g sugarpaste (we work with a 50:50 blend of the two. PME bulbous cone tool (in the pme tool set), or cocktail stick or jem frilling stick to frill the paste, regular cake tools and list above.

15th March - Water lily -  I will provide petal and leaf templates. white and green florist paste (or hearty soft deluxe/modena), small white/yellow seed head stamens, lemon yellow, moss green, dark green, aubergine dusts, PME spray glaze.

22nd March - Water Lily - as above

29th March -  Dragonfly - optional mould or free-hand, I will provide gelatine pre-made wings and show how to make them in class, flowerpaste, 24g white wire, lemon yellow, cornflour blue, black dust colours, culpitt dipping solution.

5th April - Isomalt work and complete pond scene - Pre-tempered isomalt (either cooking yourself at home and bringing cold isomalt) or by Squires Kitchen or simi isomalt, in clear - we will colour with gel colours (pond water can be blue or greeny), silicone mat to work on, marigold gloves and a pair of cotton gloves to wear underneath them to protect your hands from the heat, chefs blowtorch (optional, I can come around and torch people work), silicone cupcake cases or silicone jug/cake moulds to heat the silicone in the microwave (I will put pictures in the group), PME spray glaze, silver cake board to put your isomalt on.
